Decision Bowl

Terms of use

Agreeing to these terms

These terms are between you and Decision Bowl ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app at decisionbowl.com, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Decision Bowl. You must be at least 14 years old.

Your account

You sign in with a code we email you. Keep your email account secure: whoever can read it can sign in as you. Give us accurate information, and use one account per person. Tell us at hello@decisionbowl.com if you think someone else has access to yours.

Bowls and slips

You own what you write. You give us permission to store it and show it to the people in your bowl, which is how the app works, and nothing more. You're responsible for what you add and for who you invite.

Don't add anything that's unlawful, that harasses or threatens someone, that infringes someone's rights, or that includes personal information about people who haven't agreed to it. We may remove content or members that break these terms, and an owner or admin can remove members from their bowl.

Draws are for fun

Decision Bowl picks one slip at random from the ones in the bowl. What comes out is a suggestion for your evening, not advice. We don't check the places or activities people add, and we're not responsible for what happens if you act on a draw. Use your own judgment, and put it back if it's a bad idea.

Plans and limits

A free bowl holds up to 3 people and 15 slips. Premium raises the limits: one premium plan covers up to 5 bowls, each holding up to 20 people and 500 slips. You choose which bowls get premium, and a bowl loses it if the person who applied it leaves that bowl.

Annual premium costs $12 a year, plus any taxes shown at checkout. It renews automatically every year until you cancel. Cancel any time with "Manage billing" on your profile page: that stops the next renewal, and you keep premium until the end of the year you've paid for.

Lifetime premium is a single payment of $60, plus any taxes shown at checkout. "Lifetime" means the lifetime of Decision Bowl, not yours: it lasts for as long as we run the service. We may change, replace, or shut down Decision Bowl at any time, and if we do, lifetime premium ends with it. We'll give you notice where we can, but we don't owe a refund or other compensation beyond what the law requires.

Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. If you think you were charged by mistake, write to hello@decisionbowl.com and we'll sort it out.

If a plan ends or is refunded, your bowls and slips stay. A bowl that is over the free limits can't take new slips or people until it is back within them. We may change the limits and prices; a change never reaches back into a period you have already paid for, and we'll tell you before a new price applies to a renewal.

Using the app properly

Don't:

  • try to break, overload, probe, or get around the limits of the service;
  • scrape it or use it through automated means we haven't agreed to;
  • use it to send spam or unwanted messages, including through invitations;
  • pretend to be someone else.

Our work

The app, its name, and its design belong to us. You may use them to use Decision Bowl as intended, and not to copy or resell them.

Ending things

You can stop using Decision Bowl at any time, and ask us to delete your account at hello@decisionbowl.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we have to stop offering the service, in which case we'll give you notice where we can.

No guarantees, and limits on our liability

Decision Bowl is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and your bowls safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it, or CAD $100 if you paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be limited, including under consumer protection law in Quebec.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Quebec, except that if you're a consumer you may also bring a claim where you live, if the law gives you that right.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and if the change is significant we'll tell you before it takes effect. Using Decision Bowl after that means you accept the new terms. Questions: hello@decisionbowl.com.
